Jotter allows people to engage with other members and writers in a way never seen before. Create a group to discuss your favourite topics or join a book club and engage with other members. Jotter exists to provide writers a better solution.
We are an open eco-system and not beholden to the world of literary agents, editors, publishing houses and manuscript submissions. There are no hidden or additional costs to upload your writings, and we don’t demand exclusivity or future rights – you remain in control of your writings. Add, remove, or change your writings at any time.
Our commercial model is unique, with a massive 70% of all our subscriber monthly revenue placed in a “writers pool” and shared proportionally with writers based on a writers share of reading versus total reading on Jotter for that month.
Jotters social features also allow writers a closer relationship with their audience. Feedback allows co-collaboration with readers through the writing process, and you release your work chapter by chapter. We provide data on your readers, who they are and when they are engaged (and not engaged!).
As an experienced writer you can upload to Jotter today. For a first time or evolving writer, Jotter is a great place to engage with a global audience and to hone your craft.

Jotter is a home for nearly all writers. From established authors publishing novels, to first time writers sharing their first few chapters. From investigative journalists uncovering truths, to journals from sporting heroes. From scientists sharing whitepapers, to parents sharing advice, to poets inspiring emotion. All are welcome to share their work with the world on Jotter.
As a reader, you can explore all categories, or focus on just a few specific genres or types of writing you enjoy.
A premium membership allows up to 4 individual accounts to be created. This is a great option for families, or if you are a writer with multiple pseudonyms. There is no difference in access to writings or groups.
For the moment, you must be 16 years of age or older to join Jotter. We are currently working on ensuring we have the right processes in place to ensure only age-appropriate content is shown to younger audiences. Once we are sure Jotter can be safely used by kids, we will lower the age requirement.
Jotter is designed so writers can earn more per read than in traditional publishing.
Up to 70% of all Jotter income received from members (after taxes and bank fees) goes into our members pool and is distributed back to members. Writers receive a share of the members pool proportional to the time members spent actively reading their content as a portion of total active readership time.
For example, each individual member in the USA contributes up to US $2.96 into the monthly writer’s pool. If each member read an average of 1.5 books a month (approx. 18 books per year), each writer would receive up to US $1.97 per book read. Further, if the same member reads the same book on Jotter a few months later, the writer will get paid again.
By comparison, a writer may earn between 10-15% of a book sold through traditional publishing, averaging between $0.90 and $2.25 per book sold. However, if a book is read more than once, the writer is earning equivalent of $0.45 to $1.13 per book read – less than half the expected Jotter amount.
Note – It is anticipated that Jotter will run a launch promotion to attract new members. During the promotion period, Jotter income received will be used to help fund the winning member prize. Promotions are designed to bring a significant number of new members to Jotter, so that once the promotion is completed, there will be a substantive monthly revenue to share with all writers.
To upload any writing, you need to log into your Jotter web account, and click on Upload new writing. You will need to fill out some details on the writing (title, genre, age suitability, etc) and then select the document you wish to upload. For the moment, you need to upload documents using an ePub file format. If your document is in another format (such as Word or PDF) then you will need to convert it to ePub file. This can be done for free online using a conversion tool such as convertio.co We are currently working on accepting other file types in future version of Jotter.
It is also a good idea to check your ePub file with an online Epub Validation tool such as can be found at ePubValidation.com
We also strongly recommend you upload a book cover for your writing. Having great cover artwork will help you get noticed and attract readers. Again, there are many great websites such as Canva.com which provide free support in creating a book cover.
Once you have entered all the information you can select publish my writing.
